North Node and Attachments
We are going to do an exercise regarding your life purpose (North Node in the natal chart) and analyze any attachment that you may have that is holding you back.
The North Node points to what your objectives in this life are. The South Node represents attachments, the past, and things we hung onto, and previous objectives already achieved.
Just as a note, sometimes we remain with attachments because those correspond to the South Node and since we already passed that test, it’s a known subject. We feel more in a comfort zone, but they prevent us from growing and learning something new, which is what the North Node indicates.
To assess your situation let’s start with the most important question that you should ask yourself.
What’s your purpose in this life?
You can write the answer on a piece of paper or on your phone. It’s just one question, but it’s the most important of all questions.
Whatever the answer is, that’s the reason you are living for.
There is a phrase attributed to Mark Twain that states “The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why”. There is a dispute about whether the phrase belongs to him or not but the message stands by itself.
Following questions regarding purpose and attachments:
• Where do you stand at this moment regarding the target(s) that you have?
• What approach are you taking to reach your goal?
• Is there any person, job or responsibility acquired by your free will that is in the way to reaching your goal?
• Are you conscious about blockages that you may have that prevent reaching your goal?
• If you identified blockages, do you know the way to address them?
• Do you know the astrological aspects under which you are operating at this moment?
This is not an exam but an evaluation of your life purpose and where you stand on the road at this moment. This is just for you, and you don’t need to share it with anybody.
If there is no answer to the first question or if you have doubts about it, going back to your natal chart, understanding your North and South node position, aspects and signs involved, in addition to reviewing your current transits, can help you to know where you are.
For the sake of argument let’s discuss the scenario that you are not clear on your purpose.
You don’t have to feel bad if you don’t know it, most people don’t. This exercise may be an opportunity to take a step and take control of your path to achievement.
You can find in our blog hundreds of articles that talk about why we act the way we do, even why we think the way we do. Some are characteristics presented in the natal chart, and some are the ones we learned from our home, environment and education. We are the product of the sum of all those things. Based on that, by exercising our free will, we took decisions that could have conditioned our life one way or another.
We learn as we go, nobody comes to life knowing everything. We all make mistakes, some with little consequences to none, others more complicated. People get divorce after promising to be together until death take them apart. That happens because they took the wrong decision or circumstances changed dramatically later.
Your first love was maybe just that. Your first love. For some, they continue together for the rest of their life and for others, the first love is number one of a long list of loves.
For some their profession was not their choosing but it was more induced or it was taken by necessity, whatever the condition, it was accepted. The outcome of that has several avenues.
All that was mentioned was in the past and had some consequences and now you have reached this point in time.
If you didn’t know from early age what your purpose was, is like opening the GPS on your phone and never entering a destination. You see the street map, the avenues, the crossing streets but nothing more.
If you don’t know where you are going, you just move depending on the surrounding circumstances, until for some internal or external reason, something tells you that you are on the wrong path and your real destination appears.
Hopefully this article opens your curiosity and helps you find that out in some way.
If you enter your destination in the GPS, it will tell you how far you are from the target. Depending on which direction you took before, you will know how far or how close you are to your goal.
Let’s put the scenario that you did not know where you were going, and the lack of purpose most probably was replaced by something else. It could be a person, a job, a career, an association or anything else that filled the void created by the missing objective.
All the things that you hang on that provide purpose replacing the real objective, we define them as attachments.
Attachments are things (just to generalize but also include people), that are related to you, but you may not need them. For example, let’s say you use a walking aid to walk when you don’t have any disability. With a walker you can still walk, but it will reduce your speed and mobility. You are using a walker, maybe because at one point in life it was needed, because you are used to it or because somebody gave it to you. It’s an aid that makes you feel safe at one point, but it’s not necessary anymore. If you are a whole and you know where you are going, you don’t need anything else.
Getting rid of an attachment does not mean throwing everything away, it means changing the relationship you have with those things. If people are the attachment, ask yourself why? Do you have a balanced relationship with your loved ones? Or do you have a relationship that is still there because you don’t want to feel alone?
There are too many questions that each person needs to ask to understand the intimate and close relationships. If conditions are not favorable, sooner or later the question will come up, and probably at the worse moment.
Is the person next to you supporting or preventing you from achieving your goals?
Remember that each person may have a different goal in life, so how compatible is yours with the one from the other person? Are those goals at a crossroad?
The same question is valid for any aspect stopping you from moving forward and/or sets an unnecessary constraint in your life.
It could happen that at one point, either for internal or external circumstances, you feel that you are an alien to the overall situation. You feel out of place. It is important to be in tune with your feelings, pay attention to signals, messages you receive, or you recognize as such; sometimes the universe conspires to help you reach your objective, it wants you to succeed.
Getting free from attachments does not mean that you must go and live on top of the mountain, not all is bad. Sometimes a small correction puts you on track. Consider that if you can negotiate through constraints and attachments, by clearing them, the easier will become to set the correct path to achieve your purpose.
According to certain philosophies, you are the one that previously incarnating choose your purpose, so you cannot blame anybody for the way your life goes.
Astrology has tools, like the Natal Chart, Solar Returns, Synastry, Planetary Transits, and Progressions that will provide information to clear the doubts if you have them. Learn to use the tools or ask an Astro-Coach for guidance if you need help, but don’t just sit there and think that your life is already set.
You have the power to change what is not working.
