Astrology & Antikythera Mechanism

In the previous article we were talking about the difference between knowing and believing. Since our blog is on astrology, and astrology is based on our solar system, let’s dive into that.

According to AI, “The Big Bang was the rapid expansion of space itself from a super-hot, super-dense state—not an explosion into empty space. Space stretched everywhere, cooled, and gravity turned tiny uneven spots into galaxies, stars, planets and solar systems”.

Very interesting theory until you start getting into the details. Just do your research and ask if “gravity” existed before the big bang. The answer AI gave us was: “yes and no“. You cannot take that to the bank.

From ancient Babylonians and Sumerians records already had what in astrology is called “Ephemerides”. The Ephemerides are tables showing the position of the planets in the solar system each day. They tell you in what sign each planet is, including the Moon. They already knew Jupiter cycle thousands of years before the first telescope was invented in Europe.

Don’t ask me how they knew it, because I don’t have any idea. But what I can share with you is that there was a mechanism, a mechanical device known as Antikythera, that provided information on the position of the planets and predicted eclipses. This device is dated more than two thousand years ago. There is a replica displayed at a London museum.

Ancient civilizations achieved things that we can hardly replicate today for the precision and materials used. So go figure.

But the discussion today is not how smart civilizations were thousands of years ago, but to understand how it is possible that a mechanical device, like the Antikythera mechanism, reproduced the movement of the planets and the Moon.

Part of the device was found on an ancient ship wreak in the coast of Greece at the beginning of the 1900’s. Derek John de Solla Price was an English physicist and historian who lived between 1922 and 1983, and he devoted 20 years to reconstruct the complete device from what was found in the shipwreck.

The device, completely mechanical, like a clock, shows the position of the planets in the solar system at any given time.

For those that are not technically inclined, we provide a little hint for your conclusion.

A mechanical instrument can only replicate moves that are systematic within a predicted variation.

For the calculations of elements with random patterns, that can change trajectory, velocity or other elements that modify their projected trajectory, any device will need computational capabilities. Such complexity would not be able to be managed by a mechanical device.

When you check tomorrow’s weather and it states the sunrise will come out at 6:55 AM, it is because the sun’s position is already calculated for your location. It is predictable, because the cycle is fixed and repeats. Therefore, the four seasons like spring, summer, fall and winter also happen in the same patterns. We can continue with more detail, but you get the picture.

Things in nature happen in a predetermined order. That’s why we can predict certain things. The one-million-dollar question is how a random initiation of something can became mechanical in working operation in itself.
For astrology in particular, allows to know where every planet is going to be 300 years from today or going 500 years back.

So, the Solar System, and most probably the universe (or universes) is not random in its action. It follows a mechanistic patter. By deduction we can hint that there must be a design. If you analyze the human body, again you are going to find certain patterns in its design.

Don’t ask me how things were designed, because we are going to get into a discussion that does not feat our purpose. But you should have an understanding (or knowing) of why astrology works, and, that ancient civilizations had the tools, even without electricity, to know the position to the planets all the way to Saturn.
