The Nodes in the Natal Chart
The North and South Nodes are not planets, asteroids, or derivatives of the zodiac signs. They are points in the natal chart, just like the Ascendant, Descendant, or Midheaven, for example.
But what are the nodes and what do they mean in the natal chart?
The nodes are two points in the natal chart determined by the position of the Sun and Moon in the ecliptic, which is the plane in which the planets orbit. The points are calculated where the Moon’s orbit crosses the ecliptic. There are two intersection points: one toward the north (North Node) and another toward the south (South Node). Each node is placed in a house and a zodiac sign depending on its position at the time of birth.
Now that we know how these two points are calculated, it is worth clarifying that commonly only the North Node is graphically represented, with the South Node located 180 degrees opposite.
What is interesting about the nodes is that the North Node indicates the purpose in this life, the experience to be overcome, while the South Node speaks of what has already been overcome in previous lives.
For some, what has been mentioned may come as a surprise, but without much analysis, we are talking about past and current lives. It can be seen as a continuation. Astrology recognizes a soul’s trajectory beyond this existence. The Akashic Records would be the validation of this.
However, there is something much deeper and more significant, which speaks of a purpose. How is this purpose assigned, who assigns it, what is its objective?
Here we enter another topic that we have repeatedly mentioned, which is the evolution of consciousness, which is nothing more than the evolution of the soul.
There is a purpose in everything.
As we always mention, even mosquitoes, as annoying as they are, exist for a reason. If they are here, it is because they have something to contribute.
Beyond the fact that we are all on the same plane, there are things that have their determined and limited purpose, from which they cannot deviate. This is very different from humans, who have a purpose but, like in a game, each must find out what it is.
The mosquito has it easy because all it can do is what it does. But a human, with their free will, chooses what they do or do not do. This is where things become complicated.
Humans choose either black or white; it could also be gray. That choice will determine the path they will follow, but not with complete freedom of 360 degrees, rather within certain parallels. These parallels can separate from each other, granting more freedom of action to the person, or conversely, depending on the previous choices made, these parallels could come together to the point where they no longer allow movement. Consider a person in prison with a life sentence; what options do they have?
Both the person imprisoned for the rest of their existence and the one whose parallels have expanded, granting them a surprising freedom of movement, each have a purpose. It is difficult to think that a person who is imprisoned arrived on this plane to commit a crime that led to their confinement.
It must be remembered that the purpose of the universe, and consequently ours as a fractal of it, is to elevate consciousness. We arrive with the tools to fulfill our purpose, simply because no one is sent to do a ‘job’ and expect a good result without being given the tools to do so.
The key is how free will is used. Making wrong decisions at certain points in life can be a mere scrape; at other times it could feel like losing a leg.
Something so basic for human development, such as teaching children the proper use of free will, is not practiced in schools and rarely in homes. There is always an attempt to punish or instill fear to prevent doing this or that, but without foundation, without explanation.
The consequences of this can be seen in the social problems we must live with, represented by the high levels of youth suicides, drug use, alcohol, and other issues that only serve to divert from the sole reason or purpose for which we are here.
As long as there is life, there is hope. Change can happen at any moment; one only needs to be conscious of the situation, look inward, and seek the purpose. For this, astrology provides us with information.
Let’s make good use of this tool, knowing that if we use it well, we will separate the lines of our parallels, granting us more freedom of action, and thus we can flow freely toward our goal. If you feel constrained by those parallels that prevent you from moving toward what you see as your purpose, it is time to rethink things. Something is being done incorrectly. Acquired conditioning must be carefully analyzed. One cannot exercise free will without freedom of action.
The universe is here to help us; it wants us to achieve our purpose. Just ask for help, and it will come.
